Welcome to my class! I have been teaching since 1985. In those years I've taught all subjects from 4th to 8th grades, mostly focused on Math and Science. After 28 years in the Avondale School District, I came to Bloomfield Hills Middle School in December 2018. I am delighted to be starting this new adventure!
I grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan, where I still live today. I received my undergraduate degree and master's degree from Oakland University. I am married to my lovely wife, Teresa (she is a librarian), and I have four children: Bob, Beth, Stephen and Benjamin. Bob, Beth and Steve are all over 30, and Benjamin is 9 years old, so there is quite a spread in ages!
My interests, besides being with my family, include reading, writing, watercolor painting, hiking, fishing, and golf.

Calvin does a good job explaining why I'm a teacher. Do you get it?
By the way, I actually did set a kite free once when I was a kid. (I wonder where it is now?)

For three years now I've been learning watercolor painting. I find it quite challenging, and I'm trying to apply what I've discovered about the way people learn new skills. Rule #1: when things get tough, DON'T GIVE UP! The richest learning comes when you struggle and struggle, but finally get over the hump. Rule #2: When you have a "crash-and-burn" failure, quite often a great success is right around the corner!
